Forget your wallet? No problem if you have Samsung Pay, a contactless payment method that makes it incredibly easy to pay for goods and services without the need for a bulky physical wallet. Released in 2015, Samsung Pay is a free and simple payment system that allows the user to make in-store, in-app and online payments virtually anywhere in the world from their Samsung device. A mobile app that combines payment technology with a digital wallet that allows the user to pre-load and digitally store a range of credit cards, debit cards, loyalty cards and transport cards, Samsung Pay comes with mid range and high-end Samsung smartphones, and is also available on Samsung Smart Watches.
Samsung Pay securely stores your basic card information on your device and utilises your phone's NFC chip (Near Field Communication) to interact with the EFTPOS machine in the same 'tap and go' way that your physical card does. If it helps, think of Samsung Pay as an app that allows your phone to act as a physical card would, just far more secure. Rather than using your card details, each purchase uses an encrypted number that is unique to that transaction.
Samsung Pay is pre-installed on most Samsung devices, which allows for immediate activation. If not on your device, simply download the Samsung Pay app from the Google Store. Users can use any kind of card with a barcode in Samsung Pay, which means the user can continue to earn points and rewards even without the physical card on hand. Unlike many other digital wallet services that only work with specific card readers and terminal types, Samsung Pay can be used on magnetic stripe, EMV and NFC systems.
Samsung Pay is one of the most secure mobile payment platforms available. Payment card details such as your pin and CVC/CVV number are not stored on the device, and every payment requires a scan of your iris, fingerprint or PIN for authentication before the payment process proceeds. As well as internal app security, any financial transactions should be protected by your bank's fraud policy. A cloud based system that uses Samsung 'Know' tokenization technology, Samsung Pay eliminates the exchange of bank and card information between merchants and payers, relying on unique one off tokens instead.
With an intuitive user-friendly design and simple set up process, Samsung Pay enhances your digital life and makes payment smoother and easier. The main features of Samsung Pay are Credit and Debit card transactions, in-store payments, gift and membership card transactions, visa checkout, online payments, fingerprint authentication and iris scan authorisation.
There are currently a number of Qantas Points earning Samsung Pay credit cards available, including Bendigo Bank Business, NAB Business Signature, American Express Premium, CommBank Ultimate Awards and Westpac Altitude Platinum.
It's easier than you think - simply click 'Apply' on the credit card of your choice, complete the card partner's application form, wait for approval by the relevant card partner, and you'll be enjoying the convenience of a Samsung Pay compatible credit card that earns Qantas Points.
