Before you apply for a business credit card, you'll need to make sure that you meet the necessary eligibility requirements and have organised the necessary documents to complete the application.
Once you’ve decided which business credit card is right for you, the ‘Apply’ button will take you through to the relevant credit card owner’s site. Each has their own set of eligibility requirements which will need to be met in order for your application to be successful.
A business credit card that earns Qantas Points is designed for business use not for personal use. This means you’ll need an Australian Business Number (ABN) to apply. Business credit cards are useful for businesses of all sizes, including sole traders, small and large businesses, by helping track expenses. Benefits of points-earning business credit cards may include interest-free periods, enhanced control features like lock, block, limit, and more.
This type of credit card will earn your business and in some instances the individual Frequent Flyer member Qantas Points on your card spend. Depending on which you choose, some credit cards even have bonus points offers (meaning a boost to your business’ points balance) or complimentary Qantas Business Rewards membership.
If your business becomes a Qantas Business Rewards member, you or your employee’s feet don’t need to leave the ground to earn Qantas Points. However, if you or your employees need to travel for business, you could earn even more benefits associated with travel. As well as the Qantas Points and Status Credits earned on eligible flights, the business will also earn Qantas Points and a flight discount based on the amount of Qantas Points you earn in a year.
Using a business credit card that earns Qantas Points is a great way for you or your employees to build their points balance. Even if you don’t need to fly often for business, just being smart with your business credit card is one of the fastest ways to earn Qantas Points.
While there’s no 'best' credit card for small business, the credit card that is best for your business will be the one that fits in with your existing business spending. This means you'll need to look at a range of factors.
Some credit cards also link with accounting software which can help with financial reconciliations at tax time.
You can then match the types of transactions you make with the credit card features. For example, if your business uses a credit card for flights and regularly pays it off, a credit card that earns Qantas Points might offer competitive value.
On the other hand, if your business relies on the credit card for credit, interest-free days, a low rate or low fee a business credit card might be the best option.
There are many business credit cards offering 0% foreign transaction fees. Although many credit cards have annual fees, you can potentially save money spent on those fees by paying 0% in foreign transaction fees. There are other important things to keep in mind to:
It's important to remember that things can work differently in other countries, especially when it comes to ATM charges. These can attract a fee from the ATM provider worth at least $3 or between 2-4% of the total transaction, so make sure you budget accordingly and do your research.
Being money smart and paying your credit card balance by the due date on each statement will ensure that your overseas spending won't attract interest at the credit card's standard rate - a rate which could reduce the value you get from having no foreign transaction fees.
Some credit cards offer additional perks, such as complimentary travel insurance, airport lounge access or Qantas Points for your eligible spending. Be sure to check what you need to do to activate these perks so you get maximum value out of your credit card e.g. paying for your airfares on the credit card offering the reward.
The time it takes to receive points from one of our credit card partners to your Qantas Frequent Flyer account varies based on financial partner. Please contact the credit card provider for more information.
You'll need to check with your credit card provider as arrangements vary depending on the type of credit card you have and the reward program you belong to.
In most circumstances credit card reward points can only be transferred by the primary cardholder. You can, however, transfer points from a Qantas Business Rewards account to an employee's individual Qantas Frequent Flyer account.
